Building Inspector Trainee

About the role

The SAFEbuilt Training Program (STP) is designed for individuals interested in becoming building inspectors. It starts with an orientation that covers the legal aspects of building inspection work, followed by on-the-job training and self-study materials.

Responsibilities

• Receive on-the-job training on residential inspections
• Balance field experience with self-study materials
• Work under the guidance of a mentor or Field Training Inspector
• Complete 4 modules covering Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical inspections
• Achieve ICC Certified Combination Residential Inspector status upon completion

Requirements

• Strong desire to learn local building codes and construction procedures
• Ability to interpret codes and provide compliant solutions
• Positive interaction with colleagues, clients, and government entities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good time management and attention to detail
• Strong Microsoft Office skills

Qualifications

• Entry-level construction or trade background preferred
• Certificate or degree in Construction Management or construction trades is a plus
