Duties
- Review of plans and permit applications to verify compliance with Zoning Ordinance, Building Codes, etc.
- Inspection of all building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing construction, and installation during the phase of construction, remodeling, repair, and maintenance of all buildings within the city.
- Interpretation and explanation of the various codes and ordinances to building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing contractors, homeowners, and other interested parties.
- Investigation of complaints regarding substandard construction and installation.
- Preparation and maintenance of necessary records and reports.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Qualifications
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two to five years of experience in skilled residential and/or commercial inspection.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain Plumbing License.
- Must have demonstrable knowledge of all trade codes (Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical).
Physical Requirements
- The ability to stand, sit, run, walk, push, pull, squat, kneel, twist, reach, crouch, crawl, climb, stoop or move about on uneven surfaces while inspecting construction sites.
- Physical exertion of the aforementioned activities may be required for prolonged period of time.
- Must be able to access and work in confined spaces.
- Must use eyes, ears, nose, hands, and fingers to perform assigned duties.
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception is needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing and or operating assigned equipment.
- Requires repetitive hand movement in using computer keyboard.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and pull, push, or drag up to 75 pounds of materials and/or supplies.
Work Environment
- The majority of work is performed within an office and outdoors that may include extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather.
- This position entails some exposure to heights, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards, fumes, odor, mold, dust, mites, and toxic waste hazards.
- It also will have exposure to an office environment and is subject to ordinary risks typically found in an office environment.
- Must follow safe work practices.
