Building Custodian - Carlin

Location: Elko, Nevada

About the Role

Under immediate supervision, cleans assigned area or facilities of the Elko County School District.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent (e.g., GED, college, technical, or trade school transcript, foreign equivalency).
• Preferred: Custodial experience.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and shampoos rugs and carpets.
• Cleans floors by vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, polishing, or scrubbing.
• Cleans, dusts, and polishes woodwork, furniture, glass, and other items.
• Services soap dispensers, towel boxes, and similar containers.
• Empties and cleans wastepaper baskets and other refuse containers.
• Cleans chalkboards, trays, and erasers.
• Moves and adjusts chairs, desks, tables, supplies, furniture, and equipment.
• Strips, seals, and waxes floors.
• Removes spots and graffiti from floors, walls, woodwork, furniture, carpets, and fixtures.
• Washes and scrubs walls, lavatory fixtures, windows, drinking fountains, drains, lights, light fixtures, and painted surfaces.
• Shovels, plows, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
• Operates power sweepers, polishers, and other power equipment.
• Performs grounds-keeping activities such as grass cutting, tree and lawn trimming, fertilizing, etc. to maintain school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
• May be required to move, assemble, or disassemble furniture, equipment, or other items, or to assist other crafts in an emergency or as needed.
• Conforms to safety standards as prescribed.
• Performs other tasks related to the position as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Medium/Heavy work: exert force up to 50-100 lbs. occasionally; 25-50 lbs. frequently; or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.
• Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, reaching, kneeling, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities.
• Talking and hearing to communicate in person or over the telephone.
• Occasional climbing, balancing, crouching, and crawling.
• Occasional near and far acuity, depth perception, and color vision.
• Exposure to climate-controlled office settings and weather conditions ranging from mild to extreme cold/heat.
• Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud for occasional to frequent time periods.
• Exposure to furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery.
