About the role
TDS Telecom is dedicated to strengthening communities through cutting-edge fiber internet technology. As a Broadband Technician II, you will perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects, and service changes for residential customers, including FTTH, RFoG, and GPON services.
Responsibilities
- Perform intermediate and complex installation of cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap/MST to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services.
- Coordinate underground drop burial work with contractors and in-house crews, and fill out and submit permits as required.
- Inspect and correct NESC safety violations for new construction builds and new service drops and legacy facilities.
- Install, splice, repair, and maintain aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and coax cable.
- Use test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimal reception.
- Utilize Locators, TDR’s, FDR’s, and OTDR’s while reading system maps and calculating signal loss.
- Work as necessary to comply with quality control guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and record system, drop, and in-house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
- Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customers on proper use of the service, including adding additional services, channel lineups, and equipment usage.
Qualifications
- 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience -OR- current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
- 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation, and repair, or switch training.
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
- Follow TDS attendance guidelines.
- Successfully complete customer-specific requirements, including a background check.
- Available for on-call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel.
- Pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Maintain DOT requirements related to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
- Strong work ethic and practical knowledge/experience with computer applications or burial construction.
- Familiarity with company products and services.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task with limited instruction.
- Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, as well as effective communications skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
