Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, change, troubleshoot/repair and disconnect client services including video, data, and telephone.
- Perform basic troubleshooting at time of installation and on scheduled service calls from tap to customer's electronic devices.
- Educate customers regarding new and existing services and describes the advantage of and sells other services to meet customer needs.
- Buries drops, locates lines and performs service audits.
- Determines customer's current service levels; inquire about customer preferences and needs; recommend service upgrades or additional products.
- Solves or escalates customer complaints, as appropriate.
- Uses automated routing system or plans daily route; requisitions equipment and supplies; stocks Company vehicle.
- Maintains and secures Company truck and equipment.
- Completes work orders and other documentation by mobile computer.
- Uses small hand tools, power tools, meters and other test equipment (we use HST 3000).
- Moves up to 75 lbs. and lifts up to 75 lbs.
- Works independently and with others.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years’ experience working as a Broadband Technician.
- Experience working with fiber.
- Able to work with a 28’ extension ladder.
- Able to vertically place ladder up to a height of 26’ up against the pole or the cable strand.
- Able to work aloft at heights of 20’ – 26’.
- Able to work on the ground in sidewalk boxes to access the buried fiber drops through conduits.
- Able to kneel and sometimes hand dig on dirt to find buried conduits.
- Able to own climbing gear or harness.
- Able to own small hand tools (screwdriver, wrenches, pliers, wire cutters, etc.).
- Able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screen.
- Valid state driver’s license and non-negligent driving record.
- Meets safety restriction weight limit of 275 lbs.
- Able to lift and move up to 75 lbs.
- Able to visually perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics.
- Knowledge of basic electronics.
- Skill in using a Windows-based computer.
- Ability to comprehend and operate appropriate testing equipment (e.g. signal level meters, ohm meters).
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
