Bridge Repair Assistant/Trainee 1/Trainee 2

Responsibilities

• Cutting steel plates and bars using acetylene cutting equipment according to layout design/instructions and grinding edge of material to base for welding.
• Using hand tools, scraping & scaling deteriorated paint from structural steel and painting steel with primer and proper overcoat.
• Operating a variety of light highway equipment such as dump trucks, patching machines, rollers, etc. used in bridge repair and maintenance operations.
• Perform snow and ice operations in areas other than work location.
• Report within a maximum of one hour of call up.
• Serve a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Qualifications

• Journey Level: Two years’ experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesman, or training through completion of a technical course in a bridge or technical trade at a school or institute; must also have a Class B Commercial Driver License.
• Trainee 2: Commercial Driver License, and more than one year but less than two years of qualifying experience (as described in journey level qualifications).
• Trainee 1: Class D Motor Vehicle License, and less than one year of qualifying experience (as described in journey level qualifications).
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.
• Must pass a pre‑employment physical/medical examination and drug test prior to beginning employment.
• Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and will be tested for during the pre‑employment screening process; may be basis for disqualification or removal.
• Must provide an original document to prove citizenship and/or legal right to work in the United States (Public Law 99‑603).
• Must have proper authorization to work in the United States at the time an offer of employment is made.
• The Department will not sponsor a nonimmigrant for a temporary employment visa (H‑1B or similar), OPT STEM, or for permanent residence.
• Offers of permanent employment may not be made to nonimmigrants whose employment authorization is limited to a period of practical training (F‑1 or similar).

Pay

The starting salary for Bridge Repair Assistant Trainee 1 is $52,996.00 (base salary $43,996.00 + geographic pay differential $9,000.00).
The starting salary for Bridge Repair Assistant Trainee 2 is $55,199.00 (base salary $46,199.00 + geographic pay differential $9,000.00).
