Breast Surgeon (Assistant , Associate , or Full Professor - CHS/CT)

Academic staff position in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Wisconsin. This is a full-time, regular, onsite role identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every two years thereafter.

About the Role

The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin is seeking an exceptional academic surgeon with a clinical practice focused in Breast Surgery. Candidates should be board-eligible or board-certified in General Surgery. Completion of a breast surgery or surgical oncology fellowship is strongly preferred but not required. The selected finalist will join a cohesive, multidisciplinary team and demonstrate a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions through education and/or research.

Applicants will be considered for titles including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor on the Clinical Health Science (CHS) track, or Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor on the Clinical Teaching (CT) track, based on experience and qualifications.

The Division of Surgical Oncology includes 15 full-time academic faculty surgeons and 9 advanced practice providers, organized into Gastrointestinal Oncology and Breast/Cutaneous Oncology sections. The division supports medical students, General Surgery residents, and an ACGME-approved two-year Surgical Oncology fellowship. The Section of Breast and Cutaneous Oncology includes six surgeons and three advanced practice providers, integrated within a multidisciplinary team featuring weekly tumor boards and subspecialty support.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage benign and malignant breast disease.
• Engage collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, breast radiologists, reconstructive surgeons, and pathologists.
• Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Participate in administrative and committee work supporting clinical and scholarly missions.
• Provide inpatient and outpatient care primarily at University Hospital and Eastpark Medical Center, a state-of-the-art outpatient clinic opened in 2025.
• Share on-call services for breast and cutaneous oncology patients.
• Support research and/or programmatic participation and development.

Requirements

• Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.
• Board certification or board eligibility from the American Board of Surgery, American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, or equivalent by the appointment start date.
• Eligibility for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.
• MD, DO, or equivalent degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of a fellowship in Surgical Oncology and/or Breast Surgery by the appointment start date.
• For Associate Professor or Professor rank on the CHS track, candidates must meet departmental and School of Medicine and Public Health criteria for promotion or appointment.
• For Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor rank on the CT track, candidates must meet departmental and School of Medicine and Public Health criteria for promotion or appointment.
