Branch Rental Manager

About the role

The Branch Rental Manager will increase rental margin and revenue by maximizing vehicle utilization, controlling operational costs, and executing an aggressive marketing strategy that anticipates future customer needs. This role is responsible for outside sales, customer retention, fleet management, daily cash logs, and the marketing plan. Operational efficiency will be ensured through effective people development, including hiring, training, supervising, and motivating staff. The results should increase market share, profits, and overall rental growth.

This role covers the Northeast Pennsylvania territory, managing relationships across our Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Reading, PA rental locations. Travel between locations is typically same-day, with the longest drive being approximately 2 hours.

Responsibilities

• Outside Sales/Marketing: Sets appointments with prospective customers and performs customer retention visits; conducts customer reviews and surveys; overcomes objections and sells the value of the product; develops fleet planning information with recommendations for the Director of Rental.
• Rental: Ensures rental contracts are properly completed; places customers in ready vehicles; acts as custodian of cash and rental assets—accounts receivable; follows up on problems; analyzes fleet management reports to identify problem vehicles; checks vehicles for physical damages; closes contracts and extends them at the correct number of days and miles; ensures maintenance and fleet appearance meet company standards.
• Personnel Management: Recruits and selects new hires; provides ongoing guidance, communication, and training; executes performance appraisals; identifies individual strengths and weaknesses; develops weak areas into strengths and enhances strong points.
• Coordinates and maintains accurate data within the company’s marketing database.
• Maintains and expands relationships with the existing customer base.
• Maximizes rate opportunities within the marketplace.
• Provides rental counter training and supervision.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration or equivalent work experience in a similar or related industry.
• Five (5) years or more of rental or sales experience required.
• Three (3) years or more of experience in the rental product line, including outside sales and rental counter supervision required.
• Two (2) years or more of experience managing others required.
• Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel locally between the Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Reading, PA branches.

• Strong preference for a true, face-to-face outside sales background (not phone or virtual sales); a logistics/transportation industry background is a plus, including current or former Penske experience.

Pay

Base salary of $54,000, plus an uncapped commission structure. Realistic first-year total earning potential is roughly $10,000 to $20,000.

Schedule

Travel is local and day-based between the three branch locations; no overnight travel required. The longest drive between locations is approximately 2 hours.
