About the role

The Oregon Department of Human Services seeks a Public Benefits Specialist Entry to support families and communities through the provision of customer service and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • First point of contact in local offices for Oregonians seeking public benefits assistance.
  • Maintain a welcoming environment and assist with financial desk responsibilities.
  • Support office infrastructure by managing day-to-day operations and assisting families.
  • Provide customer service and information support for SNAP, TANF, ERDC, and Medicaid through phone or in-person interactions.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in a reception area or call center, preferably with high-volume work.
  • An associate degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in a busy reception area or call center, involving customer service and information gathering.

Essential Attributes

  • Ability to de-escalate high-stress situations using trauma-informed communication.
  • Proficiency in conveying complex information clearly and professionally.
  • Experience adjusting workflows and priorities based on new information or organizational changes.
  • Adaptability and positivity in the face of change.
  • Expertise with digital tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, email systems, and online search tools.
  • Willingness to uphold core values and embrace anti-racism.

$3,798 - $4,954 annually.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates fluent in Arabic and English.
