About the role
The Oregon Department of Human Services seeks a Public Benefits Specialist Entry to support families and provide customer service in a fast-paced environment. This position requires fluency in English and Arabic, with preference for bilingual skills.
Responsibilities
- First point of contact in local offices for Oregonians, providing a welcoming environment and handling front desk and financial desk responsibilities.
- Support office infrastructure by managing day-to-day operations and assisting families.
- Provide assistance to Oregonians with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Employment Related Day Care (ERDC), and Medicaid through phone or in-person interactions.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in a reception area or call center, involving high-volume work.
- An associate degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field, combined with six months of relevant experience.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Essential Attributes
- Skilled in de-escalating high-stress situations and communicating complex information clearly and professionally.
- Experience adjusting workflows and prioritizing tasks based on new information or organizational changes.
- Demonstrated adaptability and positivity in changing environments.
- Proficient in digital tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, email systems, and online search tools.
- Willingness to uphold core values and apply principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
