About the Role

The Sustainable Transportation and Communities Division integrates research, transportation and land use planning, regulations, and incentives to foster sustainable communities. These communities provide affordable housing and transportation options that drive electrification, reduce vehicle miles traveled, support carbon sequestration, and meet community needs while promoting equity, access to opportunity, and resiliency.

The Climate Investments Branch advances State policies and investments addressing climate change, focusing on communities most impacted by pollution and limited access to resources. As a key steward of California Climate Investments, the Branch collaborates with the California Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Finance, and other State agencies to direct billions of Cap-and-Invest dollars toward projects that reduce harmful emissions, protect public health, strengthen local economies, and support natural environments. The Branch also aligns transportation, housing, and climate policy through joint public meetings with the California Transportation Commission and the Department of Housing and Community Development.

As Branch Chief, you will lead high-profile initiatives in collaboration with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) leadership. You will guide the California Climate Investments as a model for national and international replication and help scale the state’s climate leadership. You will also shape the next evolution of the Branch’s work, leveraging its multi-disciplinary expertise to foster sustainable communities for all.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, implementation, and overall direction of programs and policies within the Branch.
• Obtain, monitor, and allocate personnel resources and funding within the Branch.
• Advance the Branch’s work through communication, coordination, and negotiation with other divisions, the Executive Office, agencies at all levels of government, academic and non-governmental partners, regulated parties, communities, advocates, stakeholders, and the public.

Requirements

• Applicants must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ), a narrative discussion (maximum 2 pages, Arial font, 12 point, single spaced, 1-inch margins) describing how their skills, knowledge, abilities, education, training, and experience qualify them for the position. The SOQ must include the applicant’s name and job control number. Cover letters and resumes do not replace the SOQ.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification for AIR RESOURCES SUPERVISOR II. Eligible applicants include those currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, reinstatement, list or LEAP eligibility, or in the process of obtaining list eligibility. SROA and/or Surplus candidates are given priority.

Pay

$12,562.00 - $15,724.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
