Botanist

About the role

Stantec is seeking a Botanist to join our team of environmental professionals. This position would preferably be based in our Kansas City (Overland Park), Kansas office.

Responsibilities

• Variety of projects and clients keep work interesting and fulfilling
• Leading and performing field sampling techniques and using scientific equipment
• Advanced technical writing skills for drafting professional plans, technical reports, correspondence, permit applications, etc.
• Effective communication of project status to project manager and staff
• Passing drug test, background check, physical, and maintaining a satisfactory driving record
• Field work includes exposure to the elements including inclement weather
• Developing work plans, schedules, and budgets for proposals
• Data collection and analysis
• Writing technical reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, applications, and maps for client and regulatory agency review
• Quality assurance/quality control of project deliverables

Requirements

• Experience in leading and performing field sampling techniques and using scientific equipment
• Advanced technical writing skills
• Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines
• Prior NEPA experience a plus
• Prior consulting work-related experience conducting field surveys, data analysis, technical report and permit application writing preferred

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in natural resources or environmental science (botany, biology, ecology, environmental management, natural resources, wildlife biology) or related discipline
• Master’s Degree preferred
• 5 or more years of experience required; 10 or more years of experience preferred

Skills

• Experience using GIS software and ESRI ArcMap programs preferred
