About the Role
A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way, connect readers with the right titles and products, and maintain the store's attractive presentation and efficient operation.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly, answer questions, and assist them in finding products.
- Unpack, shelve, and organize deliveries to maintain store presentation.
- Operate registers efficiently to provide quick and friendly service.
- Tidy displays and maintain cleanliness throughout the store.
- Develop merchandising skills for books, gifts, toys, and other product categories.
- Support the café team when needed.
- Assist with loss prevention by identifying theft and addressing problematic behavior.
- Build expertise in various sections, including fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, educational toys, games, music, movies, and newsstand.
- Make effective book recommendations and support key sales initiatives (e.g., Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, preorders).
- Collaborate with the team to ensure smooth store operations, including weekends and holidays.
Requirements
- Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
- Be flexible and responsive to store needs, including filling scheduling gaps.
- Demonstrate a positive, willing, and energetic approach to work.
- Support and show kindness to colleagues.
- Be cheerful and consistently helpful to customers.
- Show aptitude and willingness to learn new skills and knowledge.
- Comfortably and efficiently use technology, including registers, computers, tablets, and other tools.
- Perform physical tasks such as prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
Skills
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Basic proficiency with technology (registers, computers, tablets).
- Attention to detail in merchandising and store presentation.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of books, toys, games, or other products is a plus but not required.

Schedule
The store is open from early mornings to late evenings every day, including weekends and most holidays. Flexibility to fill scheduling gaps and work varied shifts is required.
