About the Role
A Barnes & Noble Bookseller is a key member of the bookselling team, welcoming customers, connecting readers with the right titles, and maintaining the store's presentation and operations. This role involves a mix of customer service, merchandising, and operational tasks in a dynamic retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers cheerfully, answer questions, and assist them in finding the right books and products.
- Unpack, shelve, and organize deliveries to maintain an attractive and well-stocked store.
- Operate cash registers efficiently and provide professional service at checkout.
- Maintain clean and visually appealing displays across all product categories, including books, gifts, toys, and more.
- Support the café team when needed and assist with loss prevention procedures.
- Locate books and products accurately using store tools and personal knowledge.
- Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including working early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth store operations and a positive work environment.
- Develop expertise in various product categories, including fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, educational toys, games, music, movies, and newsstand items.
- Make effective book recommendations and support key sales initiatives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, and preorders.
- Handle physical tasks, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
