About the Role
A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way, connect readers with the right titles and products, and maintain the store's attractive presentation and efficient operation.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly, answer questions, and assist them in finding products.
- Unpack and shelve deliveries, tidy displays, and maintain store presentation.
- Operate registers efficiently to provide quick and friendly service.
- Master operational competencies, including using technology (registers, computers, tablets), merchandising, and visual merchandising for books, gifts, toys, and other product categories.
- Support receiving, unpacking, and accurate shelving of deliveries.
- Locate books and products using knowledge, tools like BookMaster, and team collaboration.
- Assist the café team when needed.
- Understand and apply loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques.
- Build and use book knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s categories to make recommendations and maintain sections.
- Develop expertise in Educational Toys and Games, Specialty Games, Hobby and Collectibles, music, movies, and Newsstand to assist customers and support sales objectives.
- Contribute to key sales initiatives such as Our Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, and preorders.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.

- Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Be flexible and responsive to store needs, filling scheduling gaps when possible.

- Engage cheerfully with customers, consistently going out of your way to assist them.
This role involves physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking.
