About the Role
A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions, and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right titles and products. Equally, you are an essential part of the bookstore team in maintaining the attractive presentation of the store and in ensuring its efficient running.
Responsibilities
- Unpack and shelve deliveries, tidy displays, and maintain store presentation.
- Operate registers efficiently to provide quick and friendly customer service.
- Demonstrate reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts, filling gaps when possible.
- Maintain a positive, willing, and energetic approach to assigned tasks.
- Support and assist colleagues with kindness and teamwork.
- Assist customers cheerfully and proactively.
- Learn and master operational competencies, including:
- Using technology such as registers, computers, tablets, and other tools.
- Developing merchandising and visual merchandising skills for books, gifts, toys, and other products.
- Receiving, unpacking, and accurately shelving deliveries.
- Locating books and products using knowledge, tools, and BookMaster.
- Supporting the café team when needed.
- Understanding loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques.
- Engage in physical activities such as prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking.
- Collaborate with the wider team and work in other stores if needed.
- Build and apply book knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s categories to make effective recommendations and maintain attractive displays.
- Support key sales objectives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, and preorders.
- Develop expertise in Educational Toys and Games, Specialty Games, Hobby and Collectibles, music, movies, and Newsstand.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.

Pay
An employee in this position can expect an hourly rate starting at $16.00, depending on experience, seniority, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law.
