About the Role

A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions, and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right titles and products. Equally, you are an essential part of the bookstore team in maintaining the attractive presentation of the store and ensuring its efficient operation.

Responsibilities

• Master operational competencies, including:
  • Using technology such as registers, computers, tablets, and other tools comfortably and efficiently.
  • Developing merchandising skills to maintain book presentation and store cleanliness.
  • Running a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
  • Supporting the receiving, unpacking, and shelving of deliveries.
  • Finding books and products accurately using knowledge, tools, and BookMaster.
  • Assisting the café team when needed.
  • Understanding loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques.
• Engage in physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking.
• Collaborate with the wider team and work in other stores if needed.
• Build book knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s categories to make effective recommendations and maintain sections.
• Develop expertise in Educational Toys and Games, Specialty Games, Hobby and Collectibles, music, movies, and Newsstand.
• Support key sales objectives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, and preorders.

Pay

Starting hourly rate of $14.00, depending on experience, seniority, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law.
