About the Role

This position involves processing arrestees through the booking, magistration, and release processes while assisting Detention Officers and court staff. Key responsibilities include interviewing arrestees, preparing identification documentation, reviewing criminal histories, assessing mental health and medical needs, and facilitating the arraignment docket.

Responsibilities

• Verify receipt of correct intake documents to facilitate the initial entry of inmate information.
• Review agency teletypes, warrants of arrest, court proceedings, and other legal documents to determine the form and class of hold to be placed on arrestees.
• Enter and transfer legal documents and personal information required by law to magistrates for proper bond determination, including mental health, financial status, MHMR, citizenship, and consular information.
• Calculate time and money owed for court costs and determine the length of time and assignment of release date based on legal documents.
• Recognize and flag inmate folders for citizenship status determination by interviewing inmates regarding place of birth, social security number, and citizenship status.
• Photograph inmates and pull, research, and review inmates' criminal histories to provide summaries to classification.
• Update and verify inmate information through secondary interviews to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with creating the court docket for daily arraignments, verifying proper forms are provided to the Magistrate.
• Collect documents signed by the judge to obtain inmate signatures and provide inmates with copies of legal documentation.
• Assist with administrative special projects, such as auditing inmate folders for compliance with State mandates and Jail Standards.
• Maintain paper and automated records.
• Answer phone calls and resolve issues related to law enforcement agencies, courts, and judges.
• Control and coordinate public access to inmate visitation, ensuring visitors reach the correct location for visits.
• Provide professional and technical assistance to the Release area of Booking, including sending teletypes to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies regarding releases.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) full-time year of work experience required; law enforcement and customer service experience strongly preferred.
• Current and valid driver license.
• TCIC/NCIC certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Ability to assume responsibilities without direct supervision.
• Ability to handle confidential information and criminal histories.
• Basic knowledge of the court system and procedures.
• Strong computer and telephone skills.
• Strong typing and communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Regularly required to bend, carry, climb, hear, keyboard, kneel, lift below the waist, lift overhead, lift to the side/twist, reach overhead, see near, sit, squat, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and work alone and with others.
• Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, evenings, and nights.
• Exposure to household-type cleaning agents (e.g., diluted bleach, alcohol-based window cleaner, chlorine-based cleanser) and occasional exposure to pesticides.
• Occasional exposure to inmate control devices that emit pepper agents via aerosol spray, gel, or foam.
• Potential exposure to toxic smoke.
