Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Test and commission new and existing boiler installations.
- Troubleshoot, service, repair, retrofit, and make recommendations as needed to return customer boilers, burners, and controls to fully function condition.
- Diagnose and repair condensing, non-condensing, water tube, fire tube and pulse type boilers.
- Completion of internal and external inspections of boilers, burners, and associated controls that determine function ability and expected service life.
- Repair and/or replace refractory, gaskets, parts, and miscellaneous controls.
- Evaluate basic boiler room systems (steam and hydronic), gather information, and help solve problems.
- Utilize combustion analysis equipment and properly adjust fire control systems to achieve design conditions.
- Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
- Retrofit boiler control systems.
- Perform routine and annual inspections including cleaning of water and fire sides of boiler.
- Schedule preventive maintenance and respond to service calls for assigned customer contract base.
- Participate with 'On Call' service rotation.
- Absorb and assist other technicians as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- 2 to 5 years’ experience in troubleshooting and servicing boilers from light commercial to industrial water-tube on a variety of boiler types and manufacturers.
- Experience on boiler fire control systems and understand all aspects of boiler safety and operation.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills to ensure effective teamwork and customer relations.
- Valid driver’s license and meet MVR requirements to operate company vehicle.
- Available for some overtime, on-call, and weekend work.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to climb ladders, lift and carry 50 or more pounds, distinguish colors for electrical work and tolerate confined spaces.
- Work will involve heights and/or seasonal temperature extremes such as excessive cold or heat.
- Must be able to work in confined, cramped or tight spaces.
- Work may often require exposure to dust, dirt, common allergens, refrigerants or other potentially hazards conditions.
