About the Organization
Convivir Colorado is a leadership program for 6th through 12th grade students who are directly impacted by migration. This includes those who are immigrants, refugees, and first-generation Americans from any nationality. We leverage the power of storytelling, artistic expression, and community building to encourage the self-empowerment and leadership development of our youth, primarily through out-of-school programs.
About the Role
This is a volunteer position on the Board of Directors, the governing body responsible for ensuring proper oversight and enabling the organization to make consistent progress toward its mission. The Board must comply with three fiduciary duties:
- Take care of the nonprofit by ensuring prudent use of all assets, including people and good will
- Make decisions that are in the best interest of the nonprofit, not any individual
- Ensure the nonprofit is in compliance with all laws, regulations, and bylaws
Responsibilities
- Promote the mission of the organization
- Monitor applicable federal, state, and local laws
- Fundraise from individual donors
- Review financial reports
- Approve an annual budget
- Provide guidance for strategic planning
- Evaluate the CEO's performance
- Set the CEO’s compensation
- Recruit new board members as needed
- Attend Board meetings
- Serve on a committee
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the immigrant, refugee, and first-generation youth experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
- Leadership or management skills
- Fundraising or coalition-building skills
- Experience with nonprofit governance, financial oversight, or strategic planning
- Experience fostering leadership, positive mental health, or artistic engagement with youth
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and liberation
