About the Training Program
Miller's offers free training for those interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. The program includes both classroom instruction and clinical training. Upon completion, students must pass the state exam to become a Certified Nurse's Aide.
Qualifications
- Pass a criminal background check, TB test, and physical prior to starting the course.
- Mandatory attendance to all classroom sessions to meet program requirements set by the Indiana State Department of Health.
Classroom Instruction
- Complete 36-40 hours of classroom work.
- Pass all tests administered during the classroom portion with a score of 80% or higher (3 attempts allowed).
- Failure to pass the classroom phase will disqualify the student from proceeding to clinicals.
Clinical Practicum
- Complete 75 hours of supervised practicum in a long-term care facility, performing all required skills successfully.
- The first 16 hours of practicum are with the class instructor; absence during this time results in dismissal from the program.
- Students may be assigned a preceptor to assist with organization and time management.
- At completion, both the preceptor and instructor will evaluate the student’s progress.
- All skills checklists (RCPs) not signed during classroom instruction must be demonstrated and signed off during clinicals by the clinical instructor or another licensed nursing professional.
- Students must submit a completed checklist (RCP) with all required skills signed off to be eligible for the state exam.
- Maintain a daily "clinical sign-in record" with the date, actual hours worked, student signature, and co-signature of a licensed supervisor.
Additional Information
- Unsatisfactory performance or attendance issues may result in dismissal from the program.
- Students should check with the facility for dress code requirements.
- Upon successful completion, students receive a certificate of completion and a scheduled test date.
- If hired and in good standing as an employee, Miller’s Merry Manor will pay for the state exam. A second attempt is also covered if needed.
- Non-employees must schedule and pay for their own exam.
