About the role
The Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in managing client invoices and supporting attorneys and legal staff with billing-related tasks. The position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Edit prebills to facilitate time and disbursement transfers, time splits, on account transfers, time adjustments, and disbursement adjustments.
- Print, sort, and distribute prebills to billing attorneys for review.
- Create drafts and finalize computerized invoices for attorneys' approval.
- Maintain and update client billing addresses, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Enter exemptions for billing and manage their status until month-end.
- Handle write-offs and monthly exemptions for billing purposes.
- Input and manage alternate rates in the accounting system.
- Provide attorneys and legal staff with requested billing statistics using Excel spreadsheets.
- Communicate with attorneys to meet billing deadlines and address any issues promptly.
- Participate in monthly check-in meetings with the billing manager to update on progress and troubleshoot problems.
- Respond to internal and external client inquiries in a timely manner and follow up as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of law firm billing experience.
- Previous experience with Aderant/CMS systems is preferred.
