About the role

The Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in managing client invoices and supporting attorneys and legal staff with billing-related tasks. The position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Edit prebills to facilitate time and disbursement transfers, time splits, on account transfers, time adjustments, and disbursement adjustments.
  • Print, sort, and distribute prebills to billing attorneys for review.
  • Create drafts and finalize computerized invoices for attorneys' approval.
  • Maintain and update client billing addresses, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Enter exemptions for billing and manage their status until month-end.
  • Handle write-offs and monthly exemptions for billing purposes.
  • Input and manage alternate rates in the accounting system.
  • Provide attorneys and legal staff with requested billing statistics using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Communicate with attorneys to meet billing deadlines and address any issues promptly.
  • Participate in monthly check-in meetings with the billing manager to update on progress and troubleshoot problems.
  • Respond to internal and external client inquiries in a timely manner and follow up as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of law firm billing experience.
  • Previous experience with Aderant/CMS systems is preferred.
