Billing Compliance Curriculum Development Specialist

About the role

The Billing Compliance Curriculum Development Specialist is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of enterprise-wide billing compliance education programs at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain billing compliance curricula for providers, coders, reviewers, and revenue cycle staff, including onboarding, annual education, and targeted risk-based training.
• Translate audit findings, regulatory updates, and compliance risk areas into role-specific education materials.
• Develop standardized learning materials including presentations, job aids, reference guides, assessments, and virtual learning modules.
• Deliver education through live, virtual, small-group, and one-on-one formats using adult learning principles.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert in professional and technical billing compliance, with a strong emphasis on oncology services, regulatory requirements, and risk-based education strategies.
• Partner closely with Billing Compliance leadership, Revenue Cycle, HIM, Clinical Operations, and Compliance to ensure education is standardized, scalable, evidence-based, and aligned with CMS, OIG, NCCI, payer guidance, and institutional risk priorities.

Requirements

• Advanced knowledge of billing compliance regulations and coding guidelines (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS).
• Strong instructional design and adult learning skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable education.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, Business, Education, or related field required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare billing, coding, auditing, compliance, or education.
• Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, training delivery, or provider education.
• Experience in oncology professional and technical billing compliance preferred.
• Experience supporting enterprise compliance or audit programs preferred.
• Experience with Epic preferred.
• Experience developing virtual or asynchronous learning content preferred.
• One or more of the following certifications required: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, CPMA, COC, RHIT, RHIA.

• Knowledge of oncology billing, documentation, and coding requirements.
• Ability to analyze audit and quality data to identify education gaps and measure effectiveness.
• Ability to track and report education participation and outcomes.
• Ability to serve as a billing compliance education resource across the organization.
