Bilingual Spanish WIC Coordinator for Encinitas

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews daily WHS and Pediatric appointments in the electronic health record system (EPIC) to identify WIC eligible children and determines their status in the WIC Program using the California WIC Database (WIC WISE)
  • Participates in morning WHS/pediatric huddles and/or shares WIC status with lead health center staff to identify patients needing an encounter regarding the WIC program
  • Initiates face-to-face encounters with the parents/guardians of WIC-eligible children and provides them with targeted and specific WIC retention interventions
  • Schedules appointments for WIC-eligible participants and assists them in obtaining monthly food benefits
  • Troubleshoots issues that prohibit participants from receiving their WIC benefits; works with WIC Program staff to resolve barriers and ease participation
  • Provides health center staff with accurate information on the WIC program, such as eligibility requirements, and procedures to obtain special formula and electric breast pumps
  • Fully function as a WIC Nutrition Assistant II, performing enrollments, recertifications, nutrition and breastfeeding education and other duties as needed to facilitate WIC participation
  • Participates in WHS/Pediatric department meetings and shares outcomes, challenges and successes of the WIC Program with health center team
  • Participates in WIC Staff Meetings and trainings
  • Keeps current with WIC policies and procedures
  • Flexibility to work at assigned WIC location(s) based on department needs and/or goals

Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two (2) years’ of customer service experience in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to speak, read and write fluently in English and Spanish
  • Computer proficiency with data entry and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience providing breastfeeding support and promoting a culture of breastfeeding
  • Knowledge of available health and human services/resources within the community

Pay

The pay for this role starts at $25.30 on an hourly basis.
