Bilingual Direct Support Staff - Relief (Mandarin or Cantonese Speaking)

About the role

The Direct Support Staff position at Advocates is an entry-level role designed to provide valuable care to individuals in a residential setting. This role involves supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and starting a career in human services.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing support, guidance, and role modeling directly to individuals served in a residential setting.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living such as cooking, personal hygiene, and dressing.
• Administer and manage medication, following Individual Support Plans (ISPs).
• Transport residents to appointments when needed.
• Complete shift notes summarizing any applicable occurrences, observations, concerns or progress.
• Collaborate with parents and/or guardians on how to best support each individual.
• Support residents of the program with community integration by participating in group activities, taking trips to events, and volunteering.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent degree.
• Experience working with the population preferred.
• Bilingual in English and Mandarin or Cantonese.
• Excellent interpersonal, judgment, and coaching skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to utilize basic computer applications.
• Desire to thrive in a fast-paced, client-centered, team-oriented environment.
• Valid driver's license, access to an operational and insured vehicle, and willingness to use it to transport clients.
• Demonstrated understanding and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
