BI ENGINEER Long-term contract with a Big 4 consulting firm supporting a hospital and healthcare system engagement Remote: Working MST Hours Travel: Once a month to client site in Albuquerque, NM The BI Engineer serves as a technical lead within the Data & Analytics Managed Services, taking end-to-end ownership of the enterprise Tableau environment. This role goes beyond development — it drives architectural decisions, mentors junior developers, engages directly with business stakeholders across PHP, PDS/PMG, Quality, and System Services, and leads the evolution of the reporting platform from stabilization through modernization. The BI Engineer is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, accountability, and a continuous improvement mindset within a managed services delivery model. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and governance of enterprise Tableau dashboards and workbooks, including the overall lifecycle management of dashboards and Tableau workbooksDefine and enforce Tableau development standards, naming conventions, performance optimization practices, and reusable template frameworksArchitect scalable data source connections, published data sources, and extract strategies to ensure reliability and performance in the AWS-hosted environmentConduct peer code and design reviews, ensuring quality and consistency across the development teamEvaluate and drive adoption of new Tableau features (e.g., Tableau Pulse, dynamic parameters, Einstein analytics integration) aligned to roadmapOwn L2/L3 support escalations for complex Tableau incidents including performance degradation, data discrepancies, and environment issuesLead larger enhancement delivery end-to-end from requirements through deployment, managing scope, timeline, and stakeholder expectationsDrive reduction of high-volume manual work (dataset refreshes, extract modifications, report distribution) through automation and self-service enablementMaintain and improve the ServiceNow backlog, ensuring accurate classification, prioritization, and throughput reportingProactively communicate backlog status, delivery timelines, and capacity constraints to stakeholders and leadershipSupport CSAT measurement and improvement by owning stakeholder satisfaction within the Tableau delivery domainMentor and coach junior/mid-level BI Engineers, conducting knowledge transfer sessions and supporting skills growthMaintain comprehensive documentation including runbooks, design standards, onboarding guides, and operational playbooksLead workload rationalization efforts — identifying dashboards and workbooks that are candidates for consolidation, retirement, or self-service migration Required Qualifications Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field6-12 years of enterprise Tableau development experience, including complex calculated fields, LOD expressions, table calculations, and set actionsAdvanced SQL proficiency (IBM DB2 and/or SQL Server strongly preferred) for data modeling, performance tuning, and custom queriesExperience managing Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud administration — including permissions, extract schedules, subscriptions, and site managementStrong understanding of data modeling principles, star/snowflake schemas, and enterprise data warehouse conceptsProven ability to lead stakeholder engagements, gather requirements, and deliver analytics solutions in regulated environmentsExperience operating within ITSM frameworks (ServiceNow or equivalent) for intake, prioritization, and delivery trackingExcellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences Preferred Qualifications Healthcare analytics experience supporting health plan (PHP), delivery system (PDS/PMG), clinical quality, or population health domainsHands-on experience in AWS-hosted analytics environments, including Redshift, S3-based data lakes, or AWS Glue integration with TableauTableau Certified Data Analyst or Tableau Certified Architect / Server Administrator certificationFamiliarity with BusinessObjects (BoBJ), SAS, or IBM DataStage as part of a broader enterprise analytics ecosystemExperience leading or participating in analytics platform modernization (e.g., migration from on-prem to cloud BI platforms)Exposure to self-service analytics frameworks, data literacy programs, or end-user enablement initiatives at enterprise scaleKnowledge of HIPAA, HITRUST, or other healthcare regulatory compliance requirements related to data access and reporting
