About the role
The Benefits Coordinator Intermediate provides patient access and insurance coordination functions in support of clinical operations. Responsible for verifying insurance coverage, obtaining authorizations and referrals, supporting financial counseling activities, and serving as a resource to clinic staff on insurance and benefits questions. Ensures efficient patient scheduling contributes to a positive patient experience, supports clinic operations, and delivers service consistent with the UT Health mission, vision, and patient promise.
Responsibilities
- Verifies patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to appointments.
- Obtains required authorizations and referrals for services and procedures.
- Serves as a resource to clinic staff regarding insurance and benefit requirements.
- Assists patients with questions related to insurance coverage and financial responsibilities.
- Supports financial counseling by identifying insurance coverage limitations and patient balances.
- Coordinates appointment scheduling according to provider availability and clinic protocols.
- Handles high-volume phone inquiries related to appointments, insurance, and referrals.
- Maintains accurate documentation of insurance and authorization information.
- Assists with resolving insurance or scheduling issues that may impact patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision, and patient promise of UT Health.
- Knowledge of medical insurance processes including eligibility verification, authorizations, and referrals.
- Strong analytical skills to review insurance coverage and resolve patient access issues.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate work within clinic schedules.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, and scheduling systems.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience
Three (3) years of directly related experience is required.
