Benefits Coordinator-Intermediate (UTHP Med Gastro Gateway)

Responsibilities

• Verifies and/or obtains all benefits insurance information for patients.
• Obtains authorizations and referrals.
• Affords assistance in the collection of copays and existing balances due; provides financial counseling as needed.
• Serves as an insurance resource for all clinic staff; stays updated on all insurance issues.
• Handles and answers all phone calls and transfers calls to the appropriate departments as needed.
• Manages patient appointments according to the physician's schedules and/or protocols.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates analytical thinking - this role requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates creativity and alternative thinking; capable of developing new ideas supportive of the UT Health Way.
• Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office and database programs.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Education

A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Required Skills

• Three (3) years of directly related experience is required.
