Behind the Wheel Instructor

About the role

The primary role of the Behind the Wheel Instructor (BTWI) is to ensure new drivers are ready for the road and can safely and effectively apply their new driving skills. Safety is the Company’s top priority, and the BTWI provides critical feedback to management regarding new drivers' readiness.

Responsibilities

• Acclimate new drivers to the physical and environmental demands of the job during Job Shadowing.
• Provide new employees with foundational industry knowledge, including Republic’s core principles and priorities, importance of safety, significance of customer service, and essential skills.
• Instruct and coach drivers through On-property driving skills, Stretching and Injury Prevention Techniques, and Vehicle Inspection.
• Model the Republic Way of operating a solid waste collection vehicle, communicate effectively, and provide positive feedback while addressing areas needing improvement.
• Document new employees' progress through necessary paperwork and complete daily feedback to management.
• Perform the primary responsibilities of a driver when not training a new driver.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

Qualifications

• Proficient in the equipment style(s) with which they are certified, possibly including multiple styles.
• Recommended by their supervisor and operations manager.
• Willing to participate in the new hire driver evaluation process, including both written and verbal evaluations.
• At least two years of experience with Republic Services.
• No crashes or injuries for at least the past two years.
• No disciplinary actions for the preceding 12 months.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $24.70 to $34.00* which reflects the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality in which you are hired.
