About the role

The Behind the Wheel Instructor (BTWI) role is crucial for ensuring new drivers are prepared for the job and capable of performing their tasks safely and efficiently. This role involves acclimating new drivers to the physical and environmental demands of the job, providing foundational industry knowledge, and coaching them through various skills courses.

Responsibilities

• Acclimate new drivers to the physical and environmental demands of the job during Job Shadowing.
• Provide new employees with foundational industry knowledge, including Republic’s core principles and priorities, importance of safety, significance of customer service, and essential skills.
• Instruct and coach drivers through On Property Driving Skills, Stretching and Injury Prevention Techniques, and Vehicle Inspection.
• Model the Republic Way of operating a solid waste collection vehicle and communicate effectively with new employees, offering positive feedback and addressing areas needing improvement.
• Document the new employee’s progress through necessary paperwork and provide daily feedback to management.
• Perform the primary responsibilities of the job when not training new drivers.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

Qualifications

• Proficient in the equipment style(s) with which they are certified.
• Recommended by their supervisor and operations manager.
• Willingness to participate in the new hire driver evaluation process.
• Two years of experience with Republic Services.
• No crashes or injuries for at least the past two years.
• No disciplinary actions of any kind for the preceding 12 months.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $25.90 to $35.65 per hour, reflecting the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality in which you are hired.
