Behind the Wheel Instructor

About the role

The Behind the Wheel Instructor (BTWI) role is crucial for ensuring new drivers are prepared to handle the physical and environmental demands of Republic Services' operations. Safety is paramount, and the BTWI provides essential feedback to management regarding the readiness of new drivers.

Responsibilities

• Acclimate new drivers to the job through Job Shadowing.
• Provide foundational industry knowledge, including Republic’s core principles and priorities, importance of safety, and significance of customer service.
• Instruct and coach new drivers through On property driving skills, Stretching and Injury Prevention Techniques, and Vehicle Inspection.
• Model the Republic Way and communicate effectively with new employees, offering positive feedback and addressing areas needing improvement.
• Document new employees' progress and complete necessary paperwork.
• Perform primary responsibilities when not training new drivers.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proficient in the equipment style(s) with which they are certified.
• Recommended by supervisor and operations manager.
• Willingness to participate in the new hire evaluation process.
• No crashes or injuries for at least the past two years.
• No disciplinary actions for the preceding 12 months.
