Behavioral Health Therapist - PRN

About the role

This position involves planning, implementing, and evaluating therapy for assigned patients. Social work services are provided, including discharge planning, aftercare, and resource linkage.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses clients for personal, social, and emotional development, family dynamics, and relevant biopsychosocial factors.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary treatment planning, addressing special needs due to age, gender, sexual orientation, or cultural background.
  • Affordably assesses patients for discharge planning needs based on their ability to manage their care and arrange for alternative placements.
  • Knowledgeable of community resources and eligibility criteria for accessing them.
  • Petitions for involuntary commitments and provides interpretation of social, psychological, and emotional issues.
  • Utilizes evidence-based practices in individual, group, and family counseling.
  • Facilitates discussions on advance directives, informed consent, and patient rights.
  • Creates therapeutic activities and implements them during scheduled groups.
  • Documents all interactions with patients, families, and referral resources in patient records.
  • Provides follow-up resources and conducts discharge sessions with the patient's support system.
  • Completes initial and periodic treatment plan reviews within required timelines.
  • Maintains good organizational and time management skills to balance patient care, documentation, and educational requirements.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, staff, and the public, adhering to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and monitors staff compliance with safety, security, and infection control measures.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA guidelines.
  • Communicates professionally with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Remains current with healthcare trends and participates in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Must possess one of the following state licenses: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Provisional Licensed Counselor, Licensed Psychologist, Certified Nurse Practitioner, Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW), Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Psychologist, Certified Nurse Practitioner, Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C), or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.

State criminal background check and Federal background check, as required for regulated areas.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or certification/licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
  • Two years of training and/or experience in behavioral health therapy.

Skills

  • Knowledge of community resources and criteria for accessing them.
  • Ability to interpret social, psychological, and emotional problems.
  • Knowledge of laws regarding child abuse, neglect, adult abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and rape.
  • Ability to assess patients for signs or symptoms of abuse and coordinate appropriate referrals and counseling.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, written, and electronically with healthcare personnel, families, and patients.
  • Proficiency in using various equipment and supplies for delivering patient care.
