Behavioral Health Technician Supervisor
About the role
The Behavioral Health Technician Supervisor at Indiana Treatment Centers leads the Recovery Support team, ensuring high-quality patient care, consistent operations, and a supportive therapeutic environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coach, and support Behavioral Health Technicians during assigned shifts.
- Aid with onboarding, training, mentoring, and competency development of new staff.
- Maintain staff performance and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Promote accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and a positive workplace culture.
- Assist leadership with scheduling, staffing coverage, and daily operational needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Team Leadership
- Supervise, coach, and support Behavioral Health Technicians during assigned shifts.
- Aid with onboarding, training, mentoring, and competency development of new staff.
- Maintain staff performance and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.

- Assist leadership with scheduling, staffing coverage, and daily operational needs.
- Patient Care & Recovery Support
- Ensure patients receive compassionate, trauma-informed support throughout treatment.
- Monitor the therapeutic milieu to maintain a safe, structured, and recovery-focused environment.
- Assist with patient supervision, rounds, transportation, activities, and daily living support as needed.
- Respond appropriately to patient behavioral concerns, medical emergencies, and crisis situations.
- Support implementation of individualized treatment plans under the direction of the clinical team.
- Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, Joint Commission standards, and state and federal regulations.
- Complete accurate documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Conduct environmental and safety rounds.
- Monitor unit operations and communicate concerns promptly to leadership.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and quality assurance activities.
- Collaboration
- Partner with Nursing, Clinical, Medical, Admissions, Dietary, and Environmental Services teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement and excellent patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, mental health, healthcare, or a related field.
- Previous experience serving in a lead, charge, or supervisory role preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced behavioral healthcare environment.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Experience working in residential or inpatient substance use disorder treatment.
- Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) certification.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Experience with trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and recovery-oriented treatment models.
Work Conditions / Physical & Mental Requirements
Residential behavioral healthcare setting with frequent interaction with patients and multidisciplinary staff. Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and sound decision-making. Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance. Ability to safely respond to patient emergencies and behavioral crises. Cognitive & Emotional Requirements: Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail. Remain calm and professional during crisis situations. Maintain accurate documentation while balancing operational responsibilities.
