About the Role
Provides direct and indirect psychiatric care to individual or groups of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Responsible for patient data collection, implementing age-appropriate interventions, and supporting therapeutic activities using effective communication skills. Assists with patient admissions, discharges, and safety monitoring, documenting patient conditions and responses to care.
Responsibilities
- Administer medications following physician orders and communicate with healthcare team members about patient status.
- Ensure a safe environment by observing, reporting, and intervening as needed.
- Use de-escalation and restraint techniques when necessary.
- Conduct patient assessments, monitor mental and physical health, and document findings.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team.
- Assist with patient education and safety procedures.
- Perform routine rounding and environmental safety checks.
Qualifications & Skills
- High School diploma or GED required; Associate's/Technical Degree preferred.
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) required.
- Relevant certifications including Techniques for Effective Aggression Management or Crisis Prevention Intervention, and BLS.
- Experience in mental health settings preferred.
