Additional Information About The Role
Shift information: This is a weekend option night shift position. 36 hours a week. The hours are Saturday/Sunday/Monday from 1800-0630. A weekend option position means that the employee will sign an annual contract that they are weekend option, and they are only allowed to take two weekends off from Jan-Jun and two weekends off from Jul-Dec. They must work 24 hours between 1900 on Friday and 0700 on Monday. If they do not, they will lose their weekend option pay for the weekend. Weekend option pay is 50% over their base pay.
Type of Clients
This position supports our QMHP/(Virtual Licensed Intake Specialists) in the Behavioral Health Intervention Services department. QMHPs complete assessments and evaluate patients in crisis across 13 BJC facilities and Behavioral Health Navigators are the gatekeepers to get mental health patients assessed.

Job Responsibilities
- Navigate new client consults
- Calling outside facilities for bed availability
- Faxing charts to potential facilities
- Updating telepsychiatry spreadsheet and ensuring accuracy
- Attending St. Louis Children’s Hospital meetings and Telepsychiatry meetings if working during those hours
- Constant communication with team and keeping our BJC facilities updated on status of patients
- Strong customer and follow-up skills required
Overview
BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.
Role Purpose
The Behavioral Health Navigator is responsible for coordinating services for mental health patients. This position facilitates the linkage of the patient to a qualified mental health professional, who will evaluate and determine the needs of the patient. This position also assists patients and families to identify the various resources and services available in the local community.
Responsibilities
- Initiates contact and works with various caregivers & facilities to determine their capacity for placement of mental health patients.
- Ensures that general information about care facilities and various community resources (i.e., contact information, location, number of beds, etc.) is accurate and readily available.
- Captures and updates electronic medical records (EMR) and associated documentation related to the patient.
- Prepares faxes, manages workflows, and performs various administrative duties.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Experience: 2-5 years supervisor experience preferred, no experience required
