Behavioral Health Counselor, Inpatient, Full Time Days

Full-time position, benefits eligible, 36 hours per week. Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Pay

Pay range: $30.70 - $46.05 per hour.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
• Full or provisional licensure in Social Work or Counseling.

Responsibilities

• Patient Assessment
  • Complete and document accurate clinical assessments identifying key findings to support treatment needs and level of care placement.
  • Quickly assess patient needs, verbally confirm these, and clearly communicate benefits of appropriate treatment programs.
  • Determine severity of psychosocial stressors and level of functioning using GAF Scales.
  • Respond quickly and empathetically to all assessment requests or inquiries about treatment programs.
  • Consult with physicians/psychiatrists regarding assessment findings and disposition as needed.
• Patient & Family Focus
  • Provide education to family members about treatment and aftercare support, including intervention assistance through referrals.
  • Help family members recognize dynamics of co-dependency and denial that may enable or exacerbate patient behaviors.
  • Obtain family history to corroborate patient substance abuse history/psychiatric symptoms and identify family recovery needs.
• Patient Admissions
  • Facilitate admissions by obtaining physician authorization according to assignment procedures.
  • Complete pre-admission financial/insurance verifications in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Determine financial viability for treatment with admissions personnel.
  • Maintain knowledge of hospital payment policies, including third-party payor reimbursement, Medicaid, and Medicare requirements.

  • Provide concise, informative, positive, and courteous direction to patients, physicians, families, visitors, and staff.
• Customer Focus
  • Ensure excellent customer service, including clear communication, compassionate care, timeliness, and professionalism.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and family members.
• Teamwork
  • Promote a positive work environment with co-workers and other customers.
  • Attend and participate in required department and hospital meetings and in-services.
• Referrals
  • Make efficacious referrals to community resources for ongoing treatment of patients and family members.
• Professionalism
  • Uphold professional working relationships and adhere to department rules.
  • Practice teamwork and adhere to Standards of Behavior.
• Provide assessments for patients with chemical dependency and/or psychiatric illness.
• Document patients' clinical needs and interventions.
• Participate in the Interdisciplinary Team.
• Provide individual, family, or group counseling, assessment, intervention, and documentation for Behavioral Health patients.
• Coordinate hospital discharges and patient aftercare plans.

Skills & Qualifications

• Excellent decision-making and judgment skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to quickly assess and verbally confirm patient needs.
• Capability to clearly communicate benefits of appropriate treatment programs.
• Knowledge of developmental stages from age six to over 65 preferred.
• Broad knowledge of DSM-IV diagnoses and treatment modalities.
• Computer skills preferred.
