About the Role
Behavior Specialist supporting elementary and middle school students in a Special Education setting.
Responsibilities
- Implement individual, group, and system-wide behavioral interventions to promote positive outcomes.
- Reinforce appropriate behaviors, redirect negative behaviors, and model effective strategies for staff.
- Maintain accurate records related to behavior plans and collect data to monitor student progress.
- Collaborate with IEP teams and provide guidance to classroom staff on behavior management.
- Apply applied behavior analysis principles under supervision to address disruptive behaviors.
- Conduct behavioral observations, develop functional assessments, and create individualized plans.
- Respond to crises with de-escalation techniques, ensuring safety and minimizing disruptions.
- Complete documentation, adhere to safety protocols, and participate in team meetings and professional development.
- Support classroom activities, supervision during school events, and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
- Current or pending paraprofessional or teaching-related certification; RBT preferred.
- Experience working with children with learning disabilities, autism, or behavioral disorders.
- Knowledge of ABA, FBA, BIP, PBIS, and crisis intervention techniques.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office and data management tools.
