Behavior Specialist 1:1

About the role

Behavior Specialist supporting elementary and middle school students in a Special Education setting.

Responsibilities

• Implement individual, group, and system-wide behavioral interventions to promote positive outcomes.
• Reinforce positive behaviors, redirect negative behaviors, and model strategies for staff.
• Maintain accurate records of behavior plans and interventions.
• Collect and analyze behavioral data to monitor student progress.
• Support classroom staff with behavior management and monitor students.
• Apply ABA principles under supervision to address disruptive behaviors.
• Conduct behavioral observations and develop assessments and intervention plans.
• Assist with instructional activities, supervise students, and manage classroom behavior.
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure safety.
• Document incidents, adhere to safety protocols, and participate in team and professional development activities.
• Support students during school activities and perform additional duties to enhance program quality.

Qualifications & Skills

• Associate’s degree or higher in a related field.
• Current or pending paraprofessional or similar license; RBT credential preferred.
• Experience working with children with learning disabilities, autism, or behavioral disorders.
• Knowledge of ABA, FBA, BIP, and PBIS principles.
• Strong communication, organization, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to respond calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
• Proficiency with technology and data management tools.
