About the role

Interact with customers within and outside of the adult beverage department to help them make informed shopping decisions. Plan, organize, train, and direct Adult Beverage department clerks; perform production and customer service functions; and maximize store sales and profits while demonstrating the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Engage customers with a smile and friendly welcome, developing relationships and addressing them by name when possible.
  • Assist customers in finding adult beverages or make suggestions, including pairing wines with food or events.
  • Act as a guide for customer questions by being familiar with the adult beverage sections and assortment.
  • Conduct a minimum of 2 tastings per week (recommended for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during Prime Time).
  • Take customer special orders, communicate availability and delivery dates, and follow company procedures for receiving and ringing up requests.
  • Conduct daily department walks to ensure standards are maintained.
  • Execute the Weekly Display Plan and maintain accurate ad shelf signs, merchandising signs, and Point of Sale (POS) in clean, attractive condition.
  • Order and maintain adequate inventory for ad and display support, following financial cost billing guidelines to limit shrink.
  • Maintain planograms and communicate weekly sales opportunities to the grocery manager.
  • Keep the department clean, organized, and safe, ensuring accurate pricing and Computer Assisted Ordering entries.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports, complete performance reviews, and provide feedback.
  • Perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • Willing to work weekends and holidays.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Past work record reflects dependability and integrity.
  • Understand all key components of department operations.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to employment practices, safety, and State Adult Beverage Laws.
  • Qualified and able to operate power machinery and work with various job tools.
  • Possess abilities and skills for effective production, merchandising, and customer service related to the sale of merchandise.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make intelligent decisions quickly and handle stressful situations calmly and tactfully.
  • Mathematical skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages.

Qualifications

  • Grocery retail work experience and/or backup manager experience (desired).
  • Understanding of all key components of department operations (desired).
