About the role

This is a Part Time, Non Permanent position here in Huntington Beach. We believe passionately that the key to becoming the best beach City in the world starts and ends with finding the right people to join our team. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to serve as Beach Operations Assistants with the Public Works Department.

Responsibilities

  • Clean restrooms
  • Shovel debris from fire rings
  • Hand sweep stairs
  • Pick up trash
  • Blow stairs with mobile compressor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK NIGHTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS
  • Knowledge of: Use of a variety of hand/power tools and equipment
  • Ability To Perform less skilled tasks with moderate supervision
  • Understand and carry out both oral and written instructions
  • Learn beach maintenance duties and responsibilities and other related duties in support of Public Works beach maintenance programs
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, to meet the seasonal programs and services of the Public Works Department as required

Qualifications

  • Some high school and related experience or on-the-job training involving general maintenance duties
  • Knowledge and experience in beach maintenance is preferred, but not mandatory
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment

Skills

  • Knowledge of: Use of a variety of hand/power tools and equipment
  • Safe work practices
  • Safe motor vehicle operation

Benefits

This position does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS).

Pay

The SALARY RANGE is composed of seven steps. Merit step increases are based on satisfactory performance. Promotions within the City are based upon the merit system principles emphasizing individual ability and utilizing competitive examinations.

Schedule

Beach Maintenance positions are all GRAVEYARD shift. Are you willing to work GRAVEYARD shift, on weekdays, weekends, AND holidays?

  • Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.
