About the role
As a Battery Technician, you will be responsible for start-ups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance for battery shipments to customers.
Responsibilities
- Remove and disassemble cells and inspect parts to detect defects.
- Replace defective parts, reassemble battery, and fuse lead parts with a gas torch.
- Fill cells with acid solution and determine the specific gravity of the solution.
- Attach charger leads to battery posts and start charger.
- Read meters and adjust charge parameters to control time and flow of current through the battery.
- Operate a forklift to load and unload trucks using safety techniques.
- Assist with the installation and/or removal of motive/reserve power batteries and/or chargers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent; or industry-related experience and/or training in Installation, Maintenance, and Repair; or equivalent combination of education and experience in Manufacturing and/or Production.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Previous experience working with hand and power tools.
- Able and willing to operate a forklift.
- Able to read and comprehend manuals, procedures, and other written documents written in English.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Basic electrical understanding, experience using test equipment and reading schematics, or electrical experience in troubleshooting or repairs (e.g., auto, boat, truck).
General Job Requirements
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Heavier items require assistance from mechanical devices or another employee.
- Must be able and willing to operate a forklift.
- Exposure to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products; periodic blood tests are required to monitor lead levels. Precautions are taken to reduce risk and ensure safety.
- Work in a plant/warehouse environment with varying conditions.
- Responsible for wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
