Baseball Coach

About the Role

Coach baseball in a secondary school athletic program. This position description reflects essential job elements and may include any combination of the functions listed below.

Responsibilities

• Promote the sport within the schools and community.
• Plan and organize the baseball program, including practices.
• Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy, and rules and regulations of the game.
• Teach good sportsmanship, self-control, and positive values.
• Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent.
• Provide students with a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
• Demonstrate a positive image of the district to parents and the community.
• Show concern for the education, growth, and development of each student.
• Develop a positive relationship between home and school.
• Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety, and welfare of student athletes.
• Adhere to Newport Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Assist other coaches as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED certification (preferred).
• 21 years of age or older.
• Must meet requirements of a criminal records check and child abuse background check as specified by KY State Law.
• Successful completion of all training courses as specified by KHSAA.
• Demonstrates knowledge of sporting rules, regulations, and guidelines.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
• Ability to work effectively with students, peers, and parents.

Pay

Paid per the approved athletic extra-service salary schedule.
