The Portland Regency Hotel & Spa, a beautiful Historic Hotel of America located in the heart of Portland's Old Port District, is seeking a Bartender/Server.
Schedule
- Three to four days a week
- Approximately 20-25 hours per week
- Nights, days, weekends, and holidays required
About the Role
To professionally greet guests and to sell, prepare, and serve cocktails and light fare in an efficient, friendly, and professional manner.
Responsibilities
- Report to all scheduled shifts on time and in full uniform
- Punch in no more than 5 minutes before shift begins and punch out directly after shift ends
- Act in a professional manner at all times, providing friendly, courteous, and efficient service
- Pour and serve consistent, quality beverages and cocktails to all guests
- Have knowledge of drink recipes and presentation of all drinks offered, and thorough knowledge of products available
- Handle all cash, credit, and room charge transactions; responsible for the individual bank for your shift
- Knowledge of current and expired packages and gift certificates
- Open and close checks properly, following correct drop procedures
- Monitor guests’ alcohol consumption to avoid over-serving
- Have the ability, knowledge, and confidence to curtail situations involving intoxication promptly and effectively; call for assistance if needed
- Address dissatisfied guests politely and seek manager assistance if necessary
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Lounge, behind the Bar, and in the back workstation by completing all side work, stocking, and daily cleaning duties
- Leave the Bar clean, well-stocked, and ready for the next shift
- Know and obey all Maine State Liquor laws regarding the sale, consumption, and service of alcohol
- Assist in the training of new employees
- Practice safe kitchen procedures when serving food
- Become proficient with the POS computer system used in the outlets
- Keep conversation professional with staff; personal conversations should be minimal
- Attend all meetings scheduled by your manager
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Department Manager or General Manager
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- TIPS Certification
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
- Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratios, and percentages using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance
- Reasoning ability: ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand for lengthy periods of time
- Frequently required to walk, talk, hear, taste, and smell
- Occasionally required to sit, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat
- Moderate noise level in the work environment
