Barnes St. Peters-Progress West PCT Training Program Fall 2026

This role is part of a 7-week accelerated training program in partnership with St. Charles Community College, running from October 19th to November 29th, 2026. Training and long-term placement locations include Christian Hospital, Barnes St. Peter's Hospital, and Progress West Hospital. Current BJC employees must be in their current position for at least 3 months to be eligible.

The program combines classroom instruction, hands-on skill labs, and on-the-job clinical training, satisfying Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP). Selected individuals will be employed as Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) during training, with tuition fully funded by BJC HealthCare. A minimum 1-year employment commitment to Barnes-Jewish Hospital is required upon completion.

About the Role

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital serves the healthcare needs of families in St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren counties. The 102-bed community hospital offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including specialized centers for cancer, breast health, cardiology, neurosurgery, and outpatient surgery. The hospital is an Accredited Chest Pain Center with Level II stroke certification and provides additional services such as physical therapy, a sleep lab, and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation.

The Medical/Surgical unit cares for a variety of patients using a relationship-based care philosophy, with every decision made in the best interest of patients and families.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care to support licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients, ensuring a safe environment by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital patient information and reports it to the nursing team, contributing to patient assessments and monitoring changes in condition.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under nurse supervision, promoting patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Administers or assists with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output tracking, fall and pressure ulcer prevention, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists with patient and family education.
• Documents all patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
• Acts as a 1:1 patient safety sitter when necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet patient needs.
• Participates in activities promoting patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Engages in professional development.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• No prior experience required.
• No supervisory experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.
