Christian Hospital PCT Training Program Fall 2026

About the Role

This 7-week accelerated training program combines classroom instruction, hands-on skill labs, and on-the-job training in a clinical practice. The training satisfies the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP).

• Individuals selected for the program will be employed as Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) during training.
• Tuition funding is provided by BJC HealthCare.
• Minimum 1-year employment commitment to Barnes Jewish Hospital required upon completion.

Training/long-term placement location options include: Christian Hospital, Barnes St. Peter’s Hospital, and Progress West Hospital. Program dates: October 19th – November 29th, 2026.

Current BJC employees must be in their current position for 3 months to be eligible.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care to support licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients, ensuring a safe environment by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on patients and reports it to the nursing team, contributing to patient assessments and monitoring changes in patient condition.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point-of-care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education.
• Documents all patient care activities with correct medical terminology.
• Acts as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient’s needs.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• No prior experience required.
• No supervisory experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.
