About the role
Manage the daily operations of a multi-species barn and support therapeutic and educational programs for veterans and youth with special needs.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily care of horses, cows, goats, and chickens, including feeding, watering, turnout, grooming, stall cleaning, and health monitoring.
- Maintain barns, pens, pastures, equipment, and storage areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Monitor animal behavior and welfare; coordinate veterinary visits, farrier services, vaccinations, and routine health checks.
- Manage feed, bedding, supplements, and supply inventory; place orders and track usage.
- Train and supervise ranch staff, volunteers, and program participants in safe animal handling and barn procedures.
- Collaborate with program leaders to support therapeutic and educational activities for veterans and youth with special needs.
- Implement safety protocols to protect animals, staff, and participants in all areas of the ranch.
- Develop and maintain daily schedules, chore lists, and care logs.
- Identify and address facility maintenance needs; coordinate with vendors or maintenance teams as required.
- Assist with planning and supporting special events, educational workshops, and community activities held at the ranch.
Requirements
- Experience working with horses and livestock, including daily care and basic health management.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to lead, supervise, and train diverse teams with patience and clarity.
- Comfort working around individuals with special needs; supportive and inclusive mindset.
- Physical ability to lift and perform strenuous barn tasks in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of farm safety, emergency procedures, and animal behavior.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Experience in therapeutic, educational, or veteran support environments.
- Preferred: Background in ranch management or multi-species livestock care.
- Preferred: First Aid/CPR certification.
