About the role

The Barcode Tag Clerk operates the barcoding computer system and provides crucial administrative support in a fast-paced production environment. This role involves processing, generating, and forwarding production and inventory control paperwork with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Conducts the weighing of all coils in meticulous preparation for shipment.
• Ensures traceability and accurate administrative documentation of all coils.
• Executes all designated administrative functions with precision and efficiency.
• Attaches tags to completed lifts with attention to detail.
• Executes the closure of tasks upon successful verification of completion.
• Assists in the packing of steel as time permits, maintaining high standards of efficiency.
• Adheres strictly to all safety regulations as stipulated in the Plant Employee's Manual.
• Maintains attendance in accordance with the Attendance Policy outlined in the Plant Employee Manual.
• Undertakes any additional duties as assigned with professionalism and dedication.

Requirements

• High school education or GED required.
• Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
• Must meet physical requirements of the job, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing/walking on a concrete floor for the entire shift.
• Ability to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment.
• Standing/walking 100% of the time; reading charts, tags, and written procedures; printing or writing legibly to complete all required paperwork.

Skills

• Operating computers for data entry and documentation.
• Using calculators for precise calculations and ID/OD calculators to determine coil dimensions.
• Working with weighing scales for accurate measurements and tagging equipment for labeling finished lifts.
• Assisting in steel packing and adhering to safety protocols using appropriate safety equipment.

Working Conditions

• Work site is in the plant, which is on one level and accessible directly from the parking lot.
• Includes stairs in the rail pit and up to the slitter platforms, as well as short ladders on the banding lines.
• Seasonal temperature variations from 60 to 95+ degrees.
• Exposure to diesel fumes as trucks move through the plant; noise level varies depending on the number of machines in operation.
• Potential hazards include strains, cuts, and crush injuries.

Supervision and Attendance

Supervision and/or co-worker assistance are readily available. Attendance is closely monitored, as unscheduled absences may jeopardize meeting customer requirements due to insufficient staffing.

Consequences of Non-Performance

• Failure to follow established safety rules and procedures may result in loss of position or termination of employment.
• Failure to meet the requirements of the Attendance Policy will result in termination of employment.
• Failure to observe safety procedures in material handling may result in serious injury up to fatality and/or damage and loss of material or property.
• Failure to process charts in priority order may result in production or customer delivery delays, potentially leading to loss of business.
• Failure to follow proper operating procedures may result in excess scrap, production delays, or customer delivery delays, impacting profitability and business retention.
• Failure to complete appropriate paperwork may result in inventory shortages through loss of material or improper billing of the customer.
