About Our Property
Welcome to the Virginia Guesthouse. Opening in April 2026, the Virginia Guesthouse is a 214-room hotel featuring 25,000 square feet of conference and event space located on the beautiful Grounds of the University of Virginia. Making its debut in the spirited WAHOO community, the Guesthouse will offer a vibrant and inspiring setting for guests, conference attendees, faculty, and students alike. Responsibilities
- Set up for functions to include draping tables, setting silverware, folding napkins, preparing drinks, and putting out table centerpieces.
- Service to include picking up food from back hall, carrying trays to function location, serving food, and clearing the food from the tables.
- Break down to include bussing tables, putting away dirty linen and centerpieces, vacuuming.
- Cleaning of back hall and organizing of storerooms.
- Set up for AM or PM break stations that include coffee, tea, snacks, beverages, etc.
- Assist as needed with event room setup according to meal period and table needs.
- Perform food & beverage preparation duties such as preparing condiments, brewing coffee, and ensuring workstations are stocked.
- Serve food and beverages to guests.
- Remove dishes, glasses, silverware, or other items from tables/counter tops and take them to the kitchen.
- Clean and sanitize tables and/or counters & seats after guests are finished.
- Explain how various menu items are prepared, cooking methods, and ingredients.
- Take into consideration any special request and dietary issues made by the guest.
- Provide general property information.
- Offer warm and sincere welcome/farewell for all guests.
- Interact with staff in a professional manner, assisting other departments with necessary information.
- Ensure final quality check on food and beverage items prior to serving guests.
- Monitor assigned tables for customer satisfaction, quality, and additional service.
- Address any guest issue promptly and with high concern.
- Provide assistance to other event and restaurant staff as needed.
- Maintain constant awareness of safety issues (i.e., broken glass, frayed electrical cords, leaks, broken locks, and suspicious persons).
Requirements
- 2-4 years of food service experience, preferably Banquet service.
- Experience in a 4-star, 5-star venue with synchronized service.
- Knowledge of wine, beer, cocktails, and spirits.
- Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for creating an exceptional experience for all guests.
- Excellent communication skills.
Pay
$8.00 plus tips.
