About the role
The Bankruptcy Support Specialist is responsible for managing and processing all bankruptcy-related accounts within the company’s portfolio. This role ensures compliance with federal and state bankruptcy laws, coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, and provides accurate reporting on bankruptcy cases to protect company assets and minimize losses.
Responsibilities
- Review, monitor, and manage accounts involved in bankruptcy proceedings by conducting account research, processing customer requests, placing holds, updating account status, and ensuring compliance with automatic stay requirements.
- Sort and distribute inbound and outbound mail, and respond to emails and inquiries related to loan balances, payoffs, and appropriate decision-making.
- Accurately prepare case notes and file bankruptcy and legal-related documentation including proofs of claim, reaffirmation agreements, discharge paperwork, and legal submissions ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Efficiently enter data and upload documents into the system of records.
- Serve as primary liaison with courts, trustees, attorneys, customers’ legal representatives, and internal departments by staying up to date with changes in bankruptcy laws and best practices to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and smooth handling of bankruptcy cases.
- Track and report bankruptcy case status, recoveries, and potential risks to management.
- Monitor payment plans and ensure accurate account adjustments during and post-bankruptcy proceedings including calculating and adjusting repayment plans, settlements, or payoffs as required by court orders.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to bankruptcy processing and recovery.
- Identify risk exposure and recommend strategies for loss mitigation and debt recovery.
- Follow policies and procedures to complete tasks accurately and on time.
- Take inbound/transfer calls to support Account Servicing and customers with bankruptcy-related questions as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2 years of experience in bankruptcy, loan servicing, collections, or a related field.
- Proficiency in loan servicing or case management software required.
Skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet software.
