Bankruptcy Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and manage commercial bankruptcy filings impacting equipment finance, lease, and loan portfolios.
  • Analyze Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy petitions, schedules, disclosure statements, and reorganization plans.
  • Evaluate proposed plan treatment to assess potential impacts on secured claims, collateral positions, and recovery expectations.
  • Interpret bankruptcy plans and provide guidance to business stakeholders regarding creditor rights, risks, and potential recovery strategies.
  • Participate in negotiations involving plan treatment, adequate protection payments, interest rates, claim classifications, repayment terms, and settlement agreements, as appropriate.
  • Prepare, review, and monitor proofs of claim, reaffirmation agreements, motions, objections, and related bankruptcy documentation.
  • Cook with outside counsel regarding contested matters, objections, litigation strategy, and creditor remedies.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, recovery forecasts, and portfolio reporting related to bankruptcy activity.
  • Identify trends within the bankruptcy portfolio and recommend process improvements that may help reduce loss exposure and improve recovery outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of experience handling commercial bankruptcy matters, creditor rights, asset recovery, commercial collections, legal support, or equipment finance servicing.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and secured creditor rights.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting bankruptcy plans and plan treatment.
  • Knowledge of commercial lending, equipment financing, secured transactions, and collateral recovery.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and bankruptcy case management systems.
  • Highly Preferred: Experience within an equipment finance, leasing, commercial lending, banking, or specialty finance environment.
  • Working knowledge of UCC filings and secured lending documentation.
  • Experience utilizing PACER and interacting directly with bankruptcy courts, trustees, and outside legal counsel.
  • Paralegal certification, JD, or bankruptcy-related legal experience.
